Story of the Opera

La Boheme is about a group of "Bohemians" in Paris, France, about 130 years ago. Rodolfo, a poet, and his friends Marcel, a painter, Colline, a writer, and Schaunard, a musician, live together. They're extremely poor and hungry, but they're trying to make a joke of it. 1 night Schaunard comes in with money, food, and wood for the stove. He has been paid for music lessons he gave to a wealthy pupil. Then the friends go out to celebrate, but Rodolfo stays behind to finish writing a poem.

While he is alone within the studio, Mimi knocks at the door. She is really a pretty girl, and Rodolfo falls in love with her. One more girl, Musetta, has been in really like with Marcel, but they have quarreled, and she has a new friend named Alcindoro, who is old and rich; but she is genuinely in appreciate with Marcel. Within the next part of the opera, Marcel and Musetta make up again, and then quarrel once again, for that's their way; and Rodolfo quarrels with Mimi all of the time, for the reason that he is jealous.

Then Mimi, who has been ill for a lengthy time, becomes much worse, and it's plain that she is dying. Rodolfo is sad, for he seriously loves her; and all of the friends are sorry and extremely sad. They sell everything they can, to purchase medicine and pay the doctor, and Colline even pawns his overcoat and Musetta her earrings. It really is too late for the medicine to assist her, and Mimi dies. There are many incredibly nicely identified arias, or crucial solos, inside the opera: "Che gelida manina" (Thy hands are frozen), sung by Rodolfo; "Mi chiamano Mimi" (My name is Mimi) sung by Mimi; and "Musetta's waltz," sung by Musetta.
